Behind the Scenes: Writing 'Blood Bonds'

By Jessa Pratt

When I first started outlining Blood Bonds, I knew I wanted to write something that pushed boundaries. The Omegaverse genre is often defined by its tropes—heat cycles, alphas, omegas—but I wanted to explore the darker, grittier side of those dynamics.

The inspiration came from a simple question: What happens when the biological drive clashes with personal loyalty?

Building a Mafia World

Setting the story in a mafia underworld allowed me to raise the stakes. In this world, weakness is a death sentence, and improved senses aren't just for romance—they're for survival. The characters had to be sharper, crueler, and more desperate.

Writing the relationship between the protagonists was the hardest part. I didn't want instant love; I wanted instant tension. I wanted the reader to feel the danger in every interaction.

What's Next?

I'm currently working on the sequel, and let me tell you—the stakes are only getting higher. If you thought the cliffhanger in Blood Bonds was brutal, just wait until you see what happens in Book 2.
